History of Women Who Care
Women Who Care was started in November 2006 by Karen Dunigan in Jackson, MI, as a brilliantly simple way to raise money efficiently and quickly for local charities. Her group of 100 women, at their first one-hour meeting, each wrote a check for $100 directly to the charity - raising $10,000 to buy 300 new baby cribs for an organization in their city. Since then, they have grown to over 200 members and chapters are forming all over the country - with now over 500 chapters all over the world, they have collectively given over $50 MILLION!!!
Women Who Care of Kent County was founded by Sharon Stiansen and Kathy Florentine in 2013. As of April 2018, the chapter has given away over a QUARTER OF A MILLION DOLLARS to local charities serving Kent County residents! WWCKC has over 165 active members helping to continue the good works of our local non-profits. Sharon and Kathy say "This is a simple and fun way our dollars TOGETHER can make a BIG impact for local 501c3 charities."
